It's pretty typical rogue-lite fare, but the way it's presented makes it all seem simple and approachable. Meanwhile, beating the mini-boss Generals rewards you with armour pieces that buff your stats and provide unique perks — but these only last for as long as you can stay alive. Defeating enemies and finding loot will earn you Combat Scrolls, which allow you to learn techniques and level up all kinds of attributes, creating a unique build with each run and steadily growing stronger. The gameplay looks to be fairly modern, though. Presented in a 3D, isometric, pixelated style, it brings some big PS1 energy — we've seen it compared to Brave Fencer Musashi, which we can get behind. You'll battle your way through procedurally generated levels in order to regain Susanoo's strength and abilities, with the ultimate goal of defeating the legendary eight-headed dragon, Yamata-no-Orochi. You play as Susanoo, a deity from Japanese mythology, who has had his power stripped away from him.

However, the game has won us over with old-school charm and what looks to be some neat gameplay. We'll be perfectly honest — we weren't expecting a whole lot from the above trailer for Samurai Bringer, an upcoming rogue-lite action RPG for PlayStation 4.
